Many of us begin to learn about financial literacy once we become adults, or some never learn about it, and it starts a cycle of generations not having the knowledge to utilize their finances for their gain. However, successful entrepreneur Janay White wants to break that cycle and has built a community to accomplish that. She has created a Facebook group called Free Game by J White, which currently has a whopping twenty-five thousand members. The purpose of the group was to educate her community by gifting them free pieces of knowledge about their finances whether it being real estate, credit, stock, or other investment ventures. I have been a proud member of the group for the past year and can attest that she has been successful in creating an active community.

The first best practice that this group follows is by allowing members to give advice and tips on how to grow their finances. Usually, the administrator is the only one to give out advice and to answer questions, but this group allows each member to have a voice and give out their knowledge. I think this a good example of a best practice because it will show new members to not be afraid engage and be helpful to others.

The second-best practice that this group follows is being clear on the guidelines members have to follow in order to even begin posting content. One of the rules that stook out for me was the disclaimer that posts are carefully reviewed before being approved to prevent any drama or confusion from getting in the group. I think this is a good example of a best practice because it clearly communicates to members to think about what they want to post before doing it. It also helps facilitators stay on top of how the group is going and to answer questions in a timely manner if needed.

One of the challenges I have found that the group has faced is members wanting to reach out to other members. The way they have resolved is by reposting their rule on being fully transparent with group and that if you cannot tell everyone then you won’t tell anyone. I think it is good that group will reiterate any of their regulations once problems begin to arise. This technique can prevent any discrepancies from arising.

I think the group, Free Game by J White is unique because they allow members to have a voice, clearly communicate the rules within their group, and resolve challenges before any dysfunction occurs. I think the group draws buy in from members by gifting them with free knowledge and ideas on how they can become wealthy. They also allow members to express their experience on mistakes they have made in the past and advice on how to prevent it from happening to them. Another way they draw buy in from members is by encouraging members to suggest different things that they can do to make the group even more valuable.
